{February 13, 2010}   OA Thoughts

Have I mentioned on here that I’m thinking about spending more time at OverEater’s Anonymous?  Here are my thoughts today:

If I can only wrap my head around the Higher Power of OA, I think I might be okay there.  I’m doing a lot of self analysis, and I’m seeing the behaviours that they all talked about.  The thought processes.  I think the part that is hardest for me is the letting myself be helped.  For the last three years, I have done this on my own.  I used WW, but I did it online, on my own.  I use NM, but online, on my own.  So to admit that I am powerless over food, and to admit that I can’t do it alone, well… my ego is having a tough time with that one.

I have committed to six meetings, to truly give it a shot.  I’ve been to two.  The first was pretty much a joke, but the second?  That was so powerful that I didn’t even want to report on it.  Because my ego started freaking out that maybe, just maybe, I was thinking of handing over the reins on this one.

Here’s a list of questions they ask:

1. Do you eat when you’re not hungry?

2. Do you go on eating binges for no apparent reason?

3. Do you have feelings of guilt and remorse after overeating?

4. Do you give too much time and thought to food?

5. Do you look forward with pleasure an anticipation to the time when you can eat alone?

6. Do you plan these secret binges ahead of time?

7. Do you eat sensibly before others and make up for it alone?

8. Is your weight affecting the way you live your life?

9. Have you tried to diet for a week (or longer), only to fall short of your goal?

10. Do you resent others telling you to “use a little willpower” to stop overeating?

11. Despite evidence to the contrary, have you continued to assert that you can diet “on your own”?

12. Do you crave to eat at a definite time, day or night, other than mealtime?

13. Do you eat to escape from worries or trouble?

14. Have you ever been treated for obesity or a food-related condition?

15. Does your eating behavior make you or others unhappy?

Today I answer yes to nine of these.  A few of them are sketchy in that I can answer “rarely”.  Old me answered yes to 14. And the word  “rarely” doesn’t enter into it at all.

Okay, THAT was interesting.  Time to throw my head in the sand for the day and get to work.

I ran to the doctor’s today for my test.  He checked out my feet, my hips, my runners, etc.  My bursitis is in my hip.  He showed me some great stretches to do, and told me to ice it regularly.   And he gave me a “perscription” for runners.

The perscription states (where I can read his writing):

Trochateric bursitis

Tight ITB

Tight Calves & (something) dorsiflexiar (?) causing excessive pronation when running.

Supinating feet when standing.

Needs stability type shoe.

{January 21, 2010}   Wednesday – Dee

Week total time:  01:05:00

Today, I got up early and hit the treadmill for 15 minutes, then did some sit ups, and then later did another 20 minutes of step aerobics while lifting weights.  I was waiting on something with work, so thought I might as well make myself useful.  I think the secret is staying in my workout clothes.  Then if I have five minutes, I can do whatever… lifting weights, stepping, sit ups, push ups… whatever.  Once I’m showered, forget it.  And if I’m in my jammies, thpppt.

{January 21, 2010}   Monday – Dee

Week Total Time:  00:30:00

Treadmill for 1/2 hour.  Too lazy to dig up hrm.

Interesting side note… I was watching, or listening, to something, or someone, talking about working out.  They were saying that working out strictly to burn calories to eat is the stupidest thing they had ever heard.  Instead, working out should be a multitude of different activities at different levels, to promote longevity, and overall strength, which will carry us into old age without breaking us.  Or something like that but much more technical and credible.  Damned if I can remember who or what…

Anyways, I decided that they are right, and I need to stop stressing about calories burned when it’s not a running day.  I need to stop worrying about eating my calories, and focus on strengthening and toning my body.  Let eating clean take care of my fuel.  And working out be about working out, not about eating.

End of personal rant.

Good news!  I remembered to stretch this time!  Maybe I won’t be so ridiculously hurting tomorrow.

Okay, it’s not a normal workout, but I’m fucking taking it anyways.

I was walking my dogs, a good brisk walk, and we were heading home.  We were (luckily) about six minutes from home when from a house we passed comes bounding a golden lab.  A young one, by the name of Ruby, according to the screaming girls chasing it.   It spots us, comes running over and picks Morgana up by the back and shakes the shit out of her.  The girls are screaming, beating the dog with a wrapping paper roll.  Oscar is losing his mind and trying to bite Ruby.  Ruby drops Morgana and goes after Oscar.  I yanked the leash and got Oscar out, and the dog picks Morgana up again and shook her right out of her collar.  I’ve now got the leash with the chain collar on the end, and I’m whipping the dogs back as he’s mauling my dog (he’s got her in his mouth and is just shaking the shit out of her and she’s screaming and screaming) and I’m screeching “CONTROL YOUR FUCKING DOG”.  Finally the dog drops Morgie and races off, with the girls in hot pursuit.  I note the address and pick up my dog and start running for home.  I look down, and she’s bleeding on my jacket from a gaping wound on her back.

Luckily, Steve was home and jumped in the car with me and we raced her to the vet.

Emergency surgery.  She will be in overnight.  If she lives.  The vet kept telling me over and over how risky anastectic is on a dog her age.  Bloodwork is required to tailor the anastetic to her kidney and liver function (which decreases with age).  The liver processes the anasthetic, and the kidney removes it, so very important.  He told me that he will call me after the surgery “to let me know if she makes it”.

So back to the house I go, with a quote for $8-900 vet bill in hand, only to find the parents aren’t home.  Why? Because they are “taking gramma to the hospital”.  Oh god.  Great timing, huh?

I am sensitive to their situation, and am going to be completely amicable about the whole thing… but I want this bill paid.  I’m wearing my dogs blood and waiting to hear if she’s going to live.  I’m not happy right now.  But I’m willing to even take payments.  Whatever.  Dogs are dogs, and you can’t get mad at a dog for acting like a dog.  But they are still reponsible financially.

Anyway, now I’m rambling… I’m a little freaked out.  Look at my heartrate.  I’m sure the twelve minutes of being in the zone was between the dog fight and me racing from the vet to their house (I sent Steve home and needed to release energy).

I’ll let you know how it goes…

I didn’t get up this morning.  I had a crap sleep last night for some reason.  And the boy is home this week, which means getting up to make him breakfast and lunch (if I don’t he won’t pack and eat nutritional stuff, and in fact, won’t pack and eat ANYTHING).  So rather than get up in the hour of six (shudder), I slept in and ran this afternoon instead.

Hey, anybody want to post their eats?

Today was a good eating day for me.  Breakfast was a 1/2 cup of All Bran with a half a banana, a cup of milk (some went in the cereal) and vitamins.  Lunch was a chicken sandwich (no mayo, hot sauce instead) on whole wheat, with some leftover baby potatoes.  Dinner will be a half a sketti squash filled with clean sauce (crockpotted tomatoes, mushrooms, celery, onions, oregano, garlic and steak bits) with a tablespoon of light parmesan cheese.  Afternoon snack was half an apple, chopped then nuked, then covered with 1/4 cup fat free plain yogurt, 1/4 cup Omega-3 granola, and a tablespoon each walnuts and dark chocolate chips.  Total calories for the day:  1244

It’s amazing to me how few calories this burns considering the step aerobics make me sweat like you would NOT believe.  The washboard abs dvd is strictly abs, so no sweating, and no elevated heartrate.  But my curves are starting to curve again.  Sooo glad that your muscles remember their definition when you haven’t been at them for a while.  It’s reassuring to know that when you fall off the excercise wagon, it takes half as long to get back on as it did to start the first time.

I didn’t wear my HRM this morning (forgot) but I did two Crunch DVDs.  One was weights the other was abs.

I had the shittiest people day today, so in my infinite wisdom decided to take the dogs for a walk.  Right.  Note to self:  When already pissed off at the world, the dogs efforts to trip and kill you will send you over the deep end.  That’s prolly where my elevated heartrate came from.

That and the fact that I really wanted to run, and did here and there, but was afraid of killing my stupid dog.  Oscar woulda been fine, but Morgana is old and decrpit.  As it is, I think I overworked her.  But how the hell do you leave one dog at home to cry while you run with the other??  I’ve been home when one is left behind.  They scream until the other gets back.  And you can beat them against a wall, they won’t stop.

That may be an exaggeration.  My mood, I don’t want to test it.  Actually, I do, so I won’t.
